Taking Care of Your Community
What makes Community Energy different from other energy aggregators is our Community Energy Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charity funded by donations received from customers like you. Here's how it works:
Either way, the rebate is yours to use as you see fit.
- Each contract we negotiate for lower electrical rates includes a savings to you, based on a portion of what your electric bill "would have been had it been served by the affiliated Retail Electric Provider."
- Community Energy will hold a portion of the savings on your behalf. You will then be given the option of receiving:
- A cash-back, year-end bonus, which you may keep to spend any way you desire, or
- A tax-deductible donation to the Community Energy Foundation.
Taking Charge of Your Rebate
Obviously, choosing the cash-back option puts money in your bank account at the end of each year. However, if you choose to give back to your community through a voluntary, tax-deductible donation, you have a few more options.
You may donate your monthly rebate to the Foundation's general fund, or you may recommend that grants be made from your donation to any charity on the Foundation's list of qualified recipients – even split it among your favorites. You may make grant recommendations on a monthly basis, or recommend that it be saved by the Foundation and make one large distribution to a charity at a later date.
The only requirement on your donation is that you provide the Foundation with recommendations of grants equal to at least five percent of your Foundation account to a qualified charity each year.
Qualified charities are recommended by customers just like you, so the Foundation list changes often, reflecting the communities we serve.
See your Community Energy contract for details. The choice is yours.
